I had the privilege of attending the American Headache Society’s Annual Scientific Meeting in Austin, Texas this year. One exciting aspect of the event was the opportunity to speak with developers of new treatments and devices for migraine attacks that people can use in their migraine tool kit.
Scilex is a newcomer on the migraine scene and is dedicated to the development of non-opioid pain management products. This offers new hope to those that have already exhausted other acute migraine treatments. Elyxyb is their new acute migraine medication that may provide relief for those experiencing a migraine attack.
According to the Scilex website, “in some patients, Elyxyb starts to work as early as 15 minutes, and many patients experience complete freedom from pain as early as 60 minutes. Most patients in clinical trials reported sustained pain relief up to 24 hours after taking Elyxyb. Rare incidence of drowsiness was reported and no serious adverse events occurred during clinical studies. The most common side effect reported with Elyxyb was a taste disorder (dysgeusia).* *As shown in clinical studies vs placebo“
The main purpose of Elyxyb is to acutely treat a migraine attack. Those of us living with migraine disease who have struggled to find relief with other acute treatments may be able to reclaim their lives with Elyxyb. Many are unable to take triptans to treat a migraine attack due to other chronic health issues, it may be worth discussing Elyxyb with your doctor as it may be safe for those with heart conditions.
Thanks to the American Headache Society for their continued dedication to migraine and other headache disease research.
