Laura’s Myth, Truth, Action

Chronic Migraine Awareness would like to thank Laura Miller for sharing

A myth that has affected me is that all migraine attacks are the same.

The truth is that migraine is spectrum disorder. Each person is different and each person’s attacks can vary greatly. The pain severity, presence and intensity of other symptoms, and ability to function can fluctuate.

I have migraine attacks where I can take my medication and push through with my plans for the day, even through I am in pain. There are other attacks where I am completely disabled and unable to get out of bed. Other days are somewhere in between. What remains the same is that migraine is an invisible illness that is often stigmatized and misunderstood.

A way to support people living with chronic migraine is simply to believe us. Believe us when we say we are in pain and support us through the migraine cycle.

Another way to support people living with chronic migraine is to become an advocate. Speak up when you hear migraine myths or inaccuracies. Find out what policy changes that migraine organizations are working towards and contact your members of congress.
