Chronic Migraine Awareness Inc. would like to thank Gelcys for sharing her story with us
My name is Gelcys, I am a wife to a Military Veteran and a mother to a soon to be 14 year old son. We all battle with varying levels of migraine disease. I have the worst of it, I get four to five migraine attacks per week. I have also had a small stroke and get seizures due to the pain. I just had surgery to have a spinal cord stimulator put in to help with my pain, as my migraine attacks are debilitating and aggressive.
My son gets incredibly sick to his stomach and just recently had a migraine attack that caused him confusion and disorientation. I don’t want my son to go down my path.
My husband undergoes testing at the VA hospital to see why and how. He jumped out of planes in the Army and now he battles with sudden onsets of migraine attacks but not as often as I, thankfully.
We all run to remain active but migraine is a vicious bully that keeps us on our toes. My migraine alert dog, Lyssa, also runs with me and alerts me to the migraine attacks and seizures, she was a rescue that we trained. She gets me off the treadmill when an attack is on the way or when I need my medication.

I am sharing our family battle because I have a feeling we aren’t the only ones. And my son being an adolescent, doesn’t have much advocacy. I’m a migraine advocate on social media. I talk about the good, the bad and very ugly.
