Reflection: The journey continues with selfcare, self-awareness, self-esteem, and perseverance.

Written by Ronetta Stokes for Chronic Migraine Awareness, Inc.

As I sit back and reflect when I first started my advocacy journey, I am truly blessed to say I am still here and will continue to fight.

Migraine has not changed, nor will it change my daily routine. COVID is here along with this delta variant. We must protect ourselves and others. I pray for everyone to stay safe and well.

Most importantly we must take care of ourselves; self-care is a must. It’s easy to say to others and hard to do for ourselves. I learned this the hard way by doing so much that I had to take a couple days off from work. I am not one to miss work, but migraine stated otherwise. I went on vacation and, yes, migraine decided it wanted to come too. I decided I was not going to let it steal my family time. Yes, I did get some rest that day. I stayed hydrated and rested.

As we are a month away from RetreatMigraine in October, it has made me put things into perspective. I hope it’s not canceled and all the hard work that has been put into place can be experienced by all who choose to attend. I want to enjoy this opportunity and meet all the new family members I have gained over the years of advocacy.

Lastly, I leave this; we are all a piece of a puzzle in each other’s lives. You may never know where you fit. But someone’s life may never be complete without you in it. Fit in the best way only you know how.

  1. Ronetta Stokes, the author is in my virtual migraine support group. She works tirelessly as an advocate for Migraine. I feel so fortunate to be a part of the puzzle piece she speaks of. Ronetta, a true Migraine Warrior
